چکیده

Background Stroke work normalized to end diastolic volume derived from pressure volume relationship is regarded as a gold standard for the measurement of the contractile status. Though conductance catheters are widely used to obtain pressure-volume relationships in the heart, they greatly underestimate end-diastolic and end-systolic volumes in mice. MRI on the other hand provides accurate measurement of left ventricular (LV) cavity volume but does not provide absolute measurement of ventricular pressure. The aim of this study was to demonstrate the feasibility of acquiring LV volume data while invasively measuring LV pressure in mice using an MR compatible fluid filled pressure transducer. Stroke work was calculated from the integrated area within the pressurevolume loop.

Normal Value of Left Ventricular End-Systolic Elastance in Infants and Children

Background: In certain conditions, there is a need for a specific and improved measure of cardiac performance.  Routine methods for assessing left ventricular (LV) function are based on image-analysis or right heart monitoring which do not allow evaluation of ventriculo-arterial interaction. Chen et al presented a noninvasive method allowing measurement of end-systolic pressure–volume relation ...

Left ventricular untwisting rate by speckle tracking echocardiography.

BACKGROUND Recent studies validated the measurement of left ventricular (LV) untwisting rate (UR) by speckle tracking echocardiography. A few reports suggest that it may provide additional noninvasive insight into LV diastolic function. METHODS AND RESULTS Simultaneous echocardiographic imaging and LV pressure measurements (7F Millar catheters) were performed in 8 adult dogs. Loading conditio...

Validating feature tracking MRI for the assessment of strain rate in patients with various hemodyanamic states

Background Myocardial strain rate (SR) is a valuable measurement in assessing myocardial mechanical properties, which can be compared between subjects in the setting of various hemodynamic states. Feature tracking (FT) is a novel method to assess SR off-line on cine images acquired in routine cardiac MRI. In this study we sought to assess SR using the FT method in a group of patients and to val...

Evaluation of Systolic and Diastolic Function of the Ventricles and Myocardium

A critical aspect of most cardiac catheterization procedures is the evaluation of myocardial function. At its simplest, this consists of a visual assessment of the left ventricular (LV) contractile pattern from the left ventriculogram, together with measurements of LV end-diastolic pressure. In laboratories where most patients have right-sided heart catheterization and cardiac output measuremen...

Evaluation of left ventricular filling pressures by Doppler echocardiography in patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy: correlation with direct left atrial pressure measurement at cardiac catheterization.

BACKGROUND Diastolic dysfunction is a major pathophysiological abnormality in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM). Doppler echocardiographic parameters correlate with left ventricular (LV) filling pressures in other diseases, but it is unclear whether these findings apply to patients with HCM, who have multiple complex interrelated events leading to diastolic dysfunction. This study compares Dopp...
